Article 6- Royal Adelaide hospital

Royal Adelaide Hospital Carpark - Adelaide, SA

Australia's first trapezoidal composite steel formwork system, it has enjoyed specification and use on some of Australia's largest multi-storey projects.

KF70 is a revolutionary new formwork profile able to achieve large unpropped spans and savings on concrete providing lower overall slab costs.

The Car park for the Royal Hospital of Adelaide had originally put forth a tender for the traditional re-entrant profile. Fielders were able to provide an alternative KF70 design for the project with the cooperation of the developers, contractors, engineers and form workers, King Form. The car park uses conventional steel framed construction with a composite concrete slab between the secondary and primary steel beam framework. Through the design development stage, a cost saving scheme was introduced and saved 10% to the major building items cost items present in the floor component of the structure, a fact well worth considering on your next project. Overall this saved a whopping $255,000 on the major cost items of the flooring component, this represented a HUGE cost saving of over $8.00 per square metre of floor area. Not to bad I think, I wouldn’t mind that 255k in my back pocket….
