Week 1

Torquay Police Station

The Torquay police station is located just off the Torquay highway and has just been built. It combines an enforcing view which is played down by the Zebra type imprinted glass.

Main view

The building itself is constructed of concrete and encaged with steel beams and timber slats.

Detail

Covered all across the building are wooden slats which are predominately placed around windows and entrances. They could be symbolic of the standard stark metal bars seen in jail and prison cells. Therefore the application of timber in place of these traditional bars creates a softer and more caring approach, which is enhanced by the use of the zebra-print stained glass, yet still instills a necessary authoritative presence in the building.

Interesting Elements

A mix of Steel, glass, wood and concrete building materials all interlink with

each other.
